5. Happy Samhain: 30 April
As many of you may know, long before the 'Halloween' became another excuse to eat lollies, get drunk and/or dress up as an evil tart, it was a deeply meaningful celebration in old Europe. Samhain is the pagan News Years Day as it is the time when the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is at its thinnest. For many, it is a chance as the climate cools, the days shorten and the nights lengthen to go inward and remember our beloved dead.

Light candles (safely) in their memory, tell stories about them, make an altar with photo's and memorabilia of your beloved dead. The book "Circle Round" by Starhawk, Baker and Hill (Bantam Books, 1998) has beautiful ideas for ways that families can celebrate such occasions simply, yet meaningfully.

6. Three Story Tree workshops at Byron Region Community College (A.C.E.) this term

1. WALKING WITH GODDESSES, RUNNING WITH WOLVES Special Interest (Code S11)

Nourish the garden of your soul with stories from the book “Women Who Run with Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes’, female initiation tales and goddess myths. In a fun, creative and respectful environment we will come together in a circle of women to explore the ancient healing energies of folk heroines and goddesses. We will unravel and explore the divine wisdom encoded in these stories of woman in all her phases: maiden, ripe woman and crone. We will write short pieces from our own lives and make a talisman or a soul doll. Weather permitting, one week, we will visit the Crystal Castle and walk the labyrinth. A women only workshop.

When: 6 sessions, Tuesdays 12 May- 16 June, 9.30am - 12.30pm

Where: Ocean Shores  Price: $180.00 (Concession $162.00)

2. MAKING UP STORIES WITH SOUL Writing    (Code W04)
Do you love making up tales for the kids, for yourself or for the heck of it? Or do you wish you could? In this course you can get together with like-minded souls to flex the muscles of your story imagination. You will tap into ancient story patterns, try new things and sail into new uncharted realms. Drawing from Nancy Mellon’s book “Storytelling and the Art of Imagination” the tutor, a professional storyteller, will lead you through writing exercises with provocations involving story rhythm and story music, storyscapes, the four elements, seasons and moods and power and protection. For those who wish to polish their story delivery, the tutor will also support you to tell these tales informally in the group.

When: 6 sessions. Mondays, 11 May to 22 June, 9.30am - 12.30pm

PLEASE NOTE: No class Monday 8/6/09 –Public Holiday.
Where: Mullumbimby     Price: $180.00 (Concession $162.00)

3. CHANNELING NERVOUS ENERGY  Personal Development (Code PD04)
When: 4 sessions, Wednesdays, 20 May to 10 June,
9.30am - 12.30pm

Where: Ocean Shores    Price: $120.00 (Concession $108.00)

Do you get butterflies, a tight jaw or feel a panic attack coming on whenever you need to speak to a group? Have you always wished you could just feel more confident? In this workshop you will be given techniques to channel nervous energy to give you extra volts, rather than heart palpitations. This will be a gentle, supportive and highly participative experience. Some of the concrete skills touched on will be grounding yourself, soothing the inner critic voice, developing an inner supportive voice and casting the ‘golden net’. In class you will develop and practice staying in your calm centre so that gradually that wild storm of nerves can become an exciting, energising breeze.

8. Sunday, May 17, 8 am, Story Tree on Bay FM 99.9 FM

In March I did a pre-recorded interview with Des Bellamy and his wife Nella for their show "Colours of Byron". It will be played Sunday, May 17. The show airs between 7 am and 9 am, but interviews are usually played around 8 am. We chatted about what brought me to the Byron shire and also about one of my next projects: 'Byron Stories' at this years "Byron Writer's Festival". Lyn Mc Carthy will be in the chair while Des and Nella are away.

If you are conscious at that hour on a Sunday, please do tune in and let me know what you thought.

My apologies if you have received this in error. If so, please reply with 'unsubscribe' in the subject line and I'll take you off the list.
